Q: What does a regular day in the life of SOSUPERSAM look like as you juggle a radio show, DJ'ing gigs, and all the surprises of being a mother?
A day in the life! Okay! I am an early riser, I wake up an hour before my family to get dressed, walk and feed our dog, and pack lunch. I enjoy the quiet solitude of these tasks. At 7am, the family is up so I’m prepping breakfast, having coffee, getting my toddler ready for preschool. I do preschool drop off while my partner does big kid drop off. After that I set aside time to work out, then I’m doing a range of work from about 10am-4pm. This could be prepping for a gig, emailing, taking calls or meetings. At 4pm I shift focus back to family: I walk the dog, then I start sorting out dinner. We sit down for dinner at 6, then move into a soft launch of bath time and bed time routine. Our littlest goes down for bed at 7:30p, and our big kid is in bed by 9. I’m in bed between 9-10! My partner and I have creative careers, so we support each other if one has an evening event or gig. We also have our nanny who is such a huge stabilizing force for our family throughout both of our career twists and turns.
Q: As a DJ who's now a mom, how has your taste in music evolved since having your daughter? Any surprising additions to your playlists?
I’ve definitely steered into cleaner edits, and more uplifting and positive themed music! Being a mom has also unlocked a new audience for me—kids! I’m learning all the songs that get kids excited to move their bodies. DJ’ing for Tubby Todd has challenged me to curate perfectly balanced playlists for kids and parents. The experience has been so refreshing and rewarding for me!
Q: Besides DJing and dancing, do you have any hidden talents or unexpected skills that most people don't know about?
Hmmmmm, I have really good penmanship and a pretty sweet jumper on the basketball court.
Q: Your newsletter The Sam Report explores your perspective on motherhood. What prompted you to share this journey so openly?
Entering motherhood is a tremendous change in one's life, I have always felt supported every step of the way and am grateful for my village and counsel of trusted advisors. I started The Sam Report for a few reasons. It has been a catharsis in my postpartum. It's a practical way for me to share my notes with other parents who may not have a support system. In those 2 ways I feel my Substack addresses the loneliness and isolation one might feel in the early days of motherhood. And it's a way to celebrate each stage and part of parenting - the stages come and go so quickly, but they are all so important at the time. I feel like each newsletter validates every urgency one may feel—deep dive searching for the right swaddle, potty training, taking your baby out to sushi, tutu guidance. It's all important and at The Sam Report, I’m your friend who wants to overthink it all with you!
Q: What does your daughter’s wind-down routine look like, and which Tubby Todd products are your go-tos?
To wind down, after dinner we'll transition into bath time with dimmer lighting and ocean waves on the sound machine. Then it's pajamas and brushing teeth. My daughter makes a grand entrance from the bathroom into circle time, where we read books with her stuffies. Then we'll check potty one last time and tuck in where we lay and talk about our day: What made you feel happy in your heart today? Did anything make you feel sad in your heart? Did anything make you feel scared in your heart? Angry in your heart? Love in your heart? Then I’ll tell her a story and give final hugs and kisses.
We've been devoted Tubby Todd users for years now! My favorite Body Wash is the Sophia Chang Lunar New Year edition! It smells so so good. We use the Sunscreen collection daily—Sunstick for the face, Lotion for the body, Mineral Mist at the pool. And the latest fav is the Hair Detangler! The lemon scent is so delightful!

Q: What's a recent mama win (big or small) that you're excited about/proud of?
I’m historically not skilled at doing hair, mine or anyone else’s. When my daughter started preschool this past fall I wanted her to look presentable and keep her hair out of her face, but I was really intimidated at the thought of doing her hair every morning. So I sort of decided to take this fear on as a fun challenge, and I researched how to part hair, some basic styles to start with, and what tools and essentials I would need. I am about 6 months into this journey, and my skills have improved so much! It's a mom win in the girly hair department, and a bigger personal win to know I am capable of stepping up to my fears and learning new things.
Q: If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and what would you create together?
I would love to work with SZA on an R&B adaptation of classic kids' songs.
